Muralis

Two settings only you can change

Two minutes, once, on the tablet. Muralis sets up everything else by itself.

1. Turn the battery limits off

Why you must

On battery with the screen off, tablets stop background apps. Yours can wake showing the launcher instead of your dashboard.

Why Muralis cannot

Android puts this behind a dialog only you can accept. No app is allowed to grant it to itself.

  1. Settings Apps Muralis BatteryChoose Unrestricted.

On older Android the same setting lives under Settings, Apps, Special access, Battery optimisation, where Muralis should be set to Do not optimise.

  1. Settings Apps Special access Battery optimisationSwitch the list to All apps, find Muralis, choose Do not optimise.
  2. Settings Battery App launch MuralisTurn Manage automatically off, then turn on all three switches.

Muralis is missing from App launch when it is the home app on that tablet, which is how a provisioned panel is set up. That is expected: the list is for apps that start themselves in the background, and the home app is started by Android. Step one is the one that matters.

  1. Settings Apps Manage apps MuralisTurn Autostart on.
  2. Same screen Battery saverChoose No restrictions.
  1. Settings Apps Muralis BatteryChoose Unrestricted.
  2. Settings Battery Background usage limitsTake Muralis out of Sleeping apps.
  1. Settings Battery App battery management MuralisAllow background running.

These paths are right for most tablets, but makers rename screens and move them between Android versions: what is Battery on one device is App battery usage on another. If a step is not where it says, check your maker's own support pages, or dontkillmyapp.com, which keeps the steps per maker and per Android version, with screenshots.

Check it worked

Unplug the tablet, press the power button so the screen goes dark, wait ten minutes, then press it again. Your dashboard should be on the screen.

2. Let Muralis set the brightness

Only if you want it. Everything else works without this one.

Why you might

Without it, the brightness slider in Muralis and the brightness control in your dashboard both do nothing. The tablet keeps setting its own brightness.

Why Muralis cannot

Brightness is a setting for the whole tablet, so Android asks a person. Being the tablet's admin does not change that, and no other part of Muralis needs this.

  1. Muralis settings DisplayUnder Brightness, tap Grant it now. Muralis opens the one Android screen that can allow this, and comes back on its own when you are done.

By hand instead: Settings, Apps, Special access, Modify system settings, then allow Muralis. Some makers keep that list under Settings, Apps, Advanced, Special app access. A few hide it altogether, and then the button in Muralis has nothing to open: brightness stays with the tablet, and everything else works as it should.
